Memphis, Tennessee
Court Square is one of the four original squares established in the 1819 plan for Memphis. Ritchie Smith Associates collaborated with Tetra Tech Engineers on the project that included the historic 2.4-acre park and related street and utility work. Designs for the park included: return to a simple radial sidewalk pattern, much like the original; refurbishment of the bandstand; updated but compatible site furniture; and enhanced lighting and planting. New trees were planted amidst mature and aging oaks to maintain the park's shady appeal. Since completion, the square has hosted a popular summer concert series. The Court Square renovations have stimulated ongoing reinvestment in surrounding office, residential, and retail space.
