Nashville, Tennessee
Ritchie Smith Associates served as landscape architects on the master planning team for a project designed to commemorate Tennessee's 200 years of statehood. The plan included rehabilitation of the historic State Capitol grounds and Capitol area streets, and design guidelines for an adjacent redevelopment district. Key new features of the plan were the Bicentennial Mall and the Bicentennial Greenway, linking the mall with the Cumberland River. The 19-acre mall was planned to include passive recreational areas, outdoor performance space, and interpretive features descriptive of the state's natural and cultural history. Master plan team: Tuck Hinton Architects, Charles Warterfield, FAIA; Jon Coddington, AIA; David Johnson; and SSOE, Inc.
