Memphis, Tennessee
Grandview and Shivler Parks are both located adjacent to elementary schools, in the same part of town. The two sites were redesigned to create safe and stimulating play environments for school children and nearby residents in neighborhoods where amenities were lacking or outmoded. Park designs incorporated new structures for tot and junior play, as well as amenities for visitor comfort and enjoyment. New planting brought seasonal interest and, in combination with sculptural earthwork, created spatial definition. The playgrounds' safety surface was designed with graphics depicting flora and fauna, lending a playful air and distinction to the parks. Renovations also met goals of linkage and accessibility per ADA.
