Jefferson River Estates is a 23-acre, 400-unit apartment community developed on Mud Island on the Mississippi River at the edge of downtown Memphis. Ritchie Smith Associates provided site planning for buildings, pedestrian, and vehicular circulation, as well as final landscape design for open spaces within residential clusters and at the pool and clubhouse. The plant palette blends with the woodlands of the surrounding floodplain. The main boulevard is defined with an oak allee. The streets in each apartment grouping are planted with a different tree for distinct identity. Services included coordination on detailing of fencing, entry gates, and signage. Cliff Lowe Associates of San Francisco collaborated on landscape concepts.
