Tunica County, Mississippi
The 1.9-mile trail system was created as part of the 500-acre Tunica RiverPark, the site of a $25 million interpretive museum and landing on the Mississippi River in the Tunica Casino & Resort District. The trail allows visitors to experience a variety of habitats between the river and levee system. It begins with a 1,500-foot promenade along the banks of the Mississippi, with seating to provide enjoyment of dramatic views. From there an interior loop comprised of three elevated boardwalk segments takes visitors across wetlands and a lake. It was sensitively integrated to have limited impact on the river ecosystem. The entire trail network was designed to withstand major flooding and is wheelchair accessible.
