Four Seasons Garden

Memphis Botanic Garden

The Four Seasons Garden was designed as an orientation and gathering space, where visitors first experience the grounds before taking one of the garden paths or the tram. A line of rhythmically placed shrubs and a row of bubbling fountains lead from the visitor center to the central plaza, where a large pool is encircled by four smaller fountain basins symbolizing the four seasons. In contrast with the paved open plaza, surrounding bosques of trees provide shaded spaces with intimate seating along gravel paths amidst evergreen ground cover. Lights illuminate the plaza and bosques at evening events. Forms of the garden were inspired by the center's modernist architecture. Garden staff maintains accent planting in concert with the changing seasons.
