Ritchie Smith Associates designed enhancements for the historic Riverside Drive that parallels Memphis' downtown riverfront. Landscape plans resulted in beautification, traffic calming, and safe pedestrian access to the Mississippi River. Site improvements were designed to link amenities such as the Riverbluff Walkway, Tom Lee Park, and the Cobblestone Walkway. New features include street trees, lighting, and a planted median in the center of Riverside Drive. Paving bands of colored concrete alternate with crosswalks to calm traffic and to create a visual rhythm along the linear roadway. Crosswalks provide safe zones for pedestrian movement between the riverfront and the heart of downtown.
